Minister of Culture, Stephen Lashley, is encouraging Barbadians to follow the ???stellar??? example set by the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) in the upkeep of Bridgetown.
Mr. Lashley, who was addressing the launch of the Bridgetown Urban Renaissance Project and the Artscape Mural Programme on Lower Broad Street on Saturday, lauded the SSA for doing ???a fantastic job??? in the city in terms of ensuring that it is kept clean.??
???I???ve noticed a very consistent washing down of the streets; the streets are being kept clean,??? he stated.
While he praised SSA workers for their continued commitment to their jobs, the Minister emphasised the need for all Barbadians to take pride in The City and to assist in the efforts to keep it clean.
???It cannot be only left to the SSA ??? we are asking for the public to play its part in ensuring ??? that we keep our city clean. Dropping litter on the streets, urinating in the streets and also in the alleys, really must become things of the past,??? he underscored.
According to Mr. Lashley, the Urban Renaissance Project and The Artscape Mural Programme was conceptualised during a meeting with representatives of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry following discussion with various stakeholders.
Among other things, the project seeks to provide a clean and suitable environment for all users of the capital; address and mitigate the issues negatively impacting on the aesthetics and commerce of The City; and to provide employment for artists and at-risk youth.
