Living Sustainably…Towards a Green Economy, the theme for Environment Month 2011, will be the overriding message shared this Friday evening, when the month’s celebrations are officially launched.

The event, which will be held at the Bellairs Research Institute, Folkestone, St. James, will be the precursor to a range of activities which will take place throughout the month of June in an effort to bring awareness and interest to the environment and the role it plays in day-to-day life.

Environment Month, which will see participation from various departments within the Ministry, will feature three internationally recognised days – World Environment Day on June 5, World Oceans Day on June 8 and World Desertification Day on June 17.????

The emphasis on all things ???green’ will be brought into focus during the days immediately following the launch, with the continuation of the Bellairs Research Festival, FWDfest, which began last Monday.?? On Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29, workshops, tours, exhibitions, water activities and live performances will be featured.?? The month of June will also signal the beginning of a range of activities to highlight the environment,?? including coastal walks hosted by the Coastal Zone Management Unit, National Conservation Commission workshops and ???Green Readings’ at seaside locations on both the south and west coasts.
