The Lawrence T. Gay Memorial Primary School, located at Spooners Hill, St. Michael, will remain closed tomorrow, Friday, November 29.

The Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training said the closure is to allow a strong odour affecting staff and students to dissipate over the next three days.  The school was closed early today, Thursday, November 27, due to a low turnout of teaching staff.

On Wednesday, several persons in one section of the school reported discomfort due to an odour emanating from outside of the school compound, resulting in the early closure of the school.

Officials from the Ministry of Labour, the Environmental Health Department and the Warrens Polyclinic visited Lawrence T. Gay Primary and engaged the staff and students who had complained of itchy skin and burning eyes.

The source of the odour has not yet been identified but the Ministry of Education has already started to monitor the air quality at the school and will continue to work with the Ministries of Health and Labour to address the situation.

The Ministry regrets any inconvenience caused to parents and guardians.
