Primary school children will be educated on aspects of Barbadian culture, education and sports over the last 50 years through the 50 Years Bajan Primary School Competition.
The initiative is being supported by the 50th Anniversary of Independence Celebrations Secretariat, the Media Resource Department of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, as well as corporate Barbados.
Students across the island are being encouraged to visit the website 50yearsbajan.com each week until the end of October to learn interesting facts about Barbados.
They can then take a simple quiz on weekends to win free ConquerMaths scholarships. After this round, four schools with the most correct entries will compete in a live semifinal and televised final in November and vie for prizes that include tablets, scholarships, savings accounts, dinners, staycations and paintball adventures.
ConquerMaths Director Winston Cumberbatch said the competition expands children’s knowledge of our nation’s heritage over the 50 years of independence.
“Children have been enjoying the learning experience and so far 15 scholarships have been won and 50 more will be awarded to the winning school in the finals to commemorate our 50th Anniversary,” he added.
