Barbadians will get the opportunity to be better informed about various apects of colon and rectal cancer next week, when two public lectures are held on the topic.

They will be held next Monday, February 20, at the Accra Beach Hotel and Spa, Rockley, Christ Church beginning at 5:30 p.m.??

Expert in the area and innovator of the Open Total Mesenteric Excision for Rectal Carcinoma, Professor R.J. "Bill" Heald, of the United Kingdom (UK) will speak on the topic Skeletons in the Cupboard, while Director of the Colorectal Surgery Centre in Pennsylvania, United States of America (USA), Dr. John Marks, will give a talk entitled: Shaking the Tree of Tradition: Advances in the Treatment of Colorectal Cancer.

Coordinators of the event are the Ministry of Health, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the University of the West Indies and the Pelican Cancer Centre based in the UK.

The lectures precede the International Colorectal Conference scheduled to be held at the Accra Beach Hotel and Spa from Tuesday, February 21, to Friday, February 24. The symposium is expected attract participants from the Caribbean, USA, UK, Canada, Scandinavia, Australia, Japan, Africa, and some South American countries.??
