Barbadians will learn more about the implications of climate change on small island states like theirs when a series of public lectures is held as part of the activities to observe Environment Month in June.
The Environment Division of the Ministry of Family, Youth, Sports and the Environment, in collaboration with the Barbados Institute of Environmental Professionals, will be hosting a lecture over the next three Wednesdays at the Barbados Museum Courtyard, Garrison, St. Michael, starting at 7:00 p.m.
They are designed to raise awareness of the climate change issue, while sharing information on the contributions citizens can make towards a low carbon economy and the benefits they can derive from it.
“Where Do We Go When the Tides Come In?” is the theme of the first lecture which will be given by the Director of the Coastal Zone Management Unit, Dr. Leo Brewster, on June 4.
Advisor to the Executive Director of the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre in Belize, Professor Albert Binger, will speak on “Our Economy, Energy and Climate Change” on June 11.
The final lecture will be delivered by the Programme Manager of the Food Borne Disease and Preventative Control Section of the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre, Dr. Lisa Indar. She will discuss “Kick the Habit: Health and Climate Change” on June 18.
Members of the public are invited to attend all the public lectures.
