Working on improved relations between this country and Lesotho was discussed recently when a delegation of education officials from Lesotho met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean.
The delegation comprised High Commisioner, Canada and Caribbean Territories, Dr. Mathabo Tsepa; Minister of Education and Training, Makabelo Mosothoane; Chair, Examinations Council of Lesotho, Dr. Lifelile Mpho Matsoso; Registrar, Examinations Council of Lesotho, Dr. Litsabako Ntoi; Principal Secretary, Ministry of Education and Training, Keratile Thabana; and Director, Ministry of Education and Training, Mabakubung Seutloali.
During the meeting, which was held at the Ministry???s Culloden Road headquarters, both sides acknowledged that Barbados and Lesotho had signed an agreement to strengthen their relations some years ago, but little had been done in the ensuing years to move the process forward. To this end, they pledged to revisit the agreement and create new ones.
The parties also discussed collaborative efforts in the area of education. Minister of Education, Makabelo Mosothoane, explained that her Ministry was undergoing major transformation at the moment and had decided to partner with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) to assist them in this change.
The Minister lauded the choice to partner with CXC, noting that the historical similarities between Lesotho and the region made that institution an ???excellent choice??? to use as a model. She also gave an overview of the tertiary system in Barbados, as well as an idea of how the region was linked at this level through the University of the West Indies.
