The book stock of the Barbados National Library Service increased by 150 yesterday after China’s Ambassador to Barbados, Liu Huanxing, presented new reading materials and DVDs to Director Annette Smith.

Ms. Smith thanked Ambassador Liu for the generous donation and said: “The Chinese Government is always very eager to assist the Library Service and I am currently working on a proposal for other cooperative ventures where I believe the Chinese government can assist.”

Ambassador Liu noted that the stock of books handed over covered various topics. “The books seek to better explain Chinese economics, culture, history, politics, development, military and cuisine. I hope they will give the Barbadian public a well rounded knowledge of China in general”, he said.

He further added that he hoped the relationship between Barbados and China would continue so that “more materials can be donated in the distant future and maybe there could even be an exchange programme where Chinese officials could visit the library”.

Director Smith noted that: “The books will possibly be used to celebrate some significant Chinese event or day in the form of an exhibition. I am sure the public of Barbados would be very interested in such an event.”
