Persons who own venues where events such as fêtes and shows will be staged are reminded that it is compulsory that they receive permission from the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) prior to the staging of these events.
Proprietors are required to apply for a Place of Public Entertainment Licence in order to host events at their locations. The Authority is urging those persons who are desirous of hosting events at their location and have never attained such a licence to do so without delay.
All applicants for the Place of Public Entertainment Licence should register with the Customer Service Department at the BRA’s offices at the Treasury Building, Weymouth Corporate Centre or Holetown.
First-time applications should be accompanied by certificates from the Chief Town Planner, the Commissioner of Police, and the Chief Fire Officer. If a licence is being renewed, the applicant is only required to produce a certificate from the Chief Fire Officer. All licensees should note that all licences expire on January 31 of each year.
It is an offence for any person to operate a place of public entertainment without the relevant licence. Contravention of this requirement may result in a fine of $5,000 or imprisonment for two years or both. Promoters are advised that they must not stage events at places that are not licensed.
