Minister of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley??turned the lights on in National Heroes Square in the City.

In the face of the current economic challenges, the lights which illuminate roundabouts and buildings across the island, signify hope and blessings.

This was underscored by Minister of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, as he addressed the Sagicor Lighting ceremony, which preceded the "flicking of the switch" at National Heroes Square in the City, last Friday.

The Minister expressed his delight in seeing the traditional event being continually reinforced and enriched each year, and encouraged Barbadians to "retain [their] ideological and cultural identity".

"We need to ensure that the rich traditions and customs passed on by our forebears are not lost, and that we pay homage to, and respect those who have helped shape the socio-economic and cultural landscape of our homeland," Minister Lashley maintained.

The Culture Minister also said that the illumination of the national colours "evokes a strong sense of pride in our country and its sovereignty."??sharifa.medford@barbados.gov.bb
