Minister of Health, Donville Inniss??

An improved Lions Eye Care Centre is set to open later this year.

Word of this has come from Health Minister, Donville Inniss, who was at the time addressing the Lions Club of Barbados East 23rd anniversary charter night dinner, last Saturday, at the Golden Sands Hotel, Maxwell, Christ Church.

According to him, an injection of some $4.5M is being utilised to bring the Centre back into operation.?? This, he noted, would see Barbadians receiving enhanced eye and heart treatment as some $5.1M was also expected to be spent to, within the same building, provide a new cardiac suite and expand the Accident and Emergency Department.

The Lion’s Eye Care Centre’s renovations are tied to the electrical upgrade currently under way at the hospital.?? The Centre was also closed because of the spread of fungi within the building and staff and the facilities had to be relocated.?? The Minister revealed that "we are nearing the home stretch, in terms of the electrical upgrade, and it is expected to be fully completed by June of this year."

Mr. Inniss also disclosed that the air conditioning system in the Centre had been entirely redesigned and tenders were currently being reviewed.??
