Two local organisations which work with vulnerable persons have received a boost this Christmas.
The Challenor School and the Hope and Care Foundation, both recipients of $750 cheques thanks to the Emera Caribbean Celebrity Charity Basketball Shootout, are the first to benefit from this inaugural event.
Commending the Board and staff of Gymnasium Ltd., as well as Emera Caribbean, the parent company of Barbados Light & Power (BL&P) Company Ltd., at the recent handing over of the cheques at the Ministry???s headquarters at Sky Mall, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, praised them for coming on board for the event.
???We experienced a few challenges in terms of having more Barbadians come to the event but the Board and Management are looking at that with a view to bringing the event in a much more enhanced way for next year.
???We have had a significant presence from our major partner Emera Caribbean???and now we are sealing the deal on that aspect of this programme, which we have committed to providing some assistance as a result of the celebrity shootout to these two wonderful charities,??? he said.
Communications Coordinator at the BL&P, Jackie Marshall-Clarke, stated that Emera was always pleased to participate in such activities, as it was a valuable practice for them to support the companies and the communities in which they did business.
???As you know, our association with the Ministry and the National Sports Council, and Emera Caribbean is really through a donation of lights to the National Stadium. More recently, we got involved in the Sports Expo and then our sponsorship of this charity shootout. All of these initiatives line up very beautifully with our focus on sports, health and wellness and safety in the community,??? she underscored.
