Secondary and tertiary level students, as well as those attending the Barbados Vocational Training Board, are invited to participate in logo and poster competitions hosted by the National Disabilities Unit (NDU), in conjunction with the United Nations Children’s Fund.????

These competitions come as part of the "Let’s Show Them Love Public Awareness Campaign for Children with Disabilities in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean".???? The winning poster and logo will be used to promote the campaign.

The theme for both competitions is "Embrace Children with Disabilities – Let’s Show them Love".????

For the logo competition, presentations should be on board, in black and white or in colour; be a minimum size of 4"x 4"; and be representative of the theme. They should be easy to reproduce on any media and on any surface, and capable of being reduced to ??" in size, while maintaining clarity.??

Posters should be original; convey the theme; be bold and strong and the images should be seen at a distance; be neat and in colour; have a 1" white border and any media may be used.

The finished artwork for both competitions should be supplied in digital format – computer graphic formats on CD – and in hard copy on white paper. The copyright of the chosen designs will reside with the NDU, which reserves the right to modify any portion in the design of the winning entries.

Prizes for the logo competition are: first prize-$1500.00, second prize-$800.00, and third prize-$500.00. They will be donated by the City of Bridgetown Co-operative Credit Union Limited.??

The first prize for the poster competition will be an Acer Aspire One Mini Notebook (Netbook) from Tropical Computers Limited. Second prize will be $800.00 cash, compliments of RBTT Bank Barbados Limited, while third prize will be a $500.00 Leo Young Savers Account, from the RBC Royal Bank of Canada.

There will be bonus prizes and awards in special categories which will be revealed at the launch of the Let’s Show Them Love Public Awareness Campaign for Children with Disabilities in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean on Thursday, December 3. These include dinners for two, an HB Printer and $200 cash for the most promising entry by a student with disabilities.

The deadline for submission of designs is Friday, October 16, at 4:30 p.m. Entries in hard copy should be submitted to the Director, National Disabilities Unit, National Union of Public Workers’ Headquarters, Dalkeith House, Dalkeith Road, St. Michael, and by email at natdisability@caribsurf.com.
