Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, Patrick Todd (FP)??

The wide range of literature on board the Logos Hope will offer Barbadians many opportunities for personal development, which should benefit them both intellectually and spiritually.

This was the view of Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, Patrick Todd, today, as he officially opened the Logos Hope’s book exhibition and welcomed its international crew to Barbados, at the Flour Mill, Bridgetown.

"Moreover, the events … arranged both on board and on shore, including seminars and conferences for leaders, men, women, youth and children, will in fact provide new impetus for change," he added.

Noting that his Ministry was cognisant of the importance of literature, not only to school children but to the general public, Mr. Todd lauded the vision and work of the floating book fair.

"We are pleased to know that your book fair carries a selection of over 6,000 titles for the entire family.?? We appreciate the wide range of content represented, including science, sports, hobbies, cookery, economics, medicine, languages and faith," the Minister observed.

The efforts of staff on the Logos Hope to alleviate poverty world-wide, also came in for high praise from Minister Todd. "We admire your wide range of aid and relief projects conducted over the years, including post civil war reconciliation in Papua New Guinea, building orphanages in Myanmar and Liberia, rebuilding houses in Nicaragua and Grenada, donating books and literature in Sudan and East Timor," he stated.

The Logos Hope is the latest ship in a fleet of floating book fairs and replaces the Logos II which has been retired.??It has a crew from 45 different nationalities who are all non-salaried volunteers.??Its vision is to extend equal opportunity for knowledge to all; express practical love to those in need; promote peace by embracing diversity; guide people towards a purposeful life; and lead persons towards a personal relationship with God.
