Longstanding visitors came out in their numbers yesterday evening to a reception held in their honour at Ilaro Court, in what has become a popular event for many tourists.??

Manager of Planning and Reporting with the Barbados Tourism Authority, Bernard Phillips, explained that the programme, which was revived in 2008, "…has become very popular and many visitors look forward to it. Sometimes, we have to [apologise and] tell them that we’re oversubscribed – normally between 250 to 300 persons are accommodated," he revealed.

Those invited to attend the receptions are "repeat visitors" who have come to these shores at least five times, with many surpassing that mark.?? Mr. Phillips explained that "…we get information [on the number of visits] from hotels and there are many persons who have been coming here every year for the past 25 years…or 50 years.?? That’s why we formed the Over 25 Visits Club and we maintain a database of these members…" he said, adding that persons who knew of loyal visitors to Barbados could contact the BTA.

Yesterday’s reception was the final of four such events which were held this year.
