Young Barbadians are being encouraged to consider the tourism sector as the ???number one??? choice for employment when they reach adulthood.

Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, gave this advice while delivering the feature address at the presentation ceremony for the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association???s Children???s Essay and Poster Competitions, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, recently.

She told her audience that the industry presented a wide range of possibilities for employment, and commended the participants for demonstrating their knowledge and understanding about its benefits to the island???s economy.

???Your part does not stop here. Students, you can continue to play your part in this vital industry we call tourism. I cannot emphasise enough how important the sector is for our island.???

She further stated: ???It is an industry whose income has greatly assisted us in enjoying our high standard of living. It is an industry that provides jobs which are professionally and financially rewarding [and] it is the lifeblood of the Barbadian economy.???

During the presentation ceremony, Foundation School student, James Inniss, was declared the winner in the essay competition at the local level. Karlton Holligan, of St. Luke???s/Brighton Primary School, placed third in the essay competition at the regional level in the junior division, and copped first place in that division at the local level.

Meanwhile, Keidra Mottley, of The Alexandra School, placed first in the poster competition at the local level in the senior division, while Queen???s College???s Nykhalia Wilson, copped first place in the poster competition at the local level.
