When the Ministry of Housing and Lands holds its registration fair on Saturday, June 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., emphasis will be placed on persons seeking to access grants from its Incremental Home Construction Programme and families seeking to purchase homes through Government’s Housing Every Last Person (HELP) Programme.??

The subsidies, which fall under the Housing Neighbourhood Upgrading Programme (HNUP), are up to BDS $10, 000 and will aid those persons wishing to make minor repairs to their homes as well as families seeking to purchase homes.

According to a housing official: "With regards to persons requiring minor repairs, applicants applying to this programme should be citizens of Barbados; have a combined maximum monthly income of BDS $2,666 or less; must not have benefitted from any previous housing assistance; must own the house and land to be improved, but can be renting the land; and must secure the additional 10 per cent required to finance the proposed project."

The official continued:?? "In addition, families seeking to purchase homes through Government’s HELP Programme should be citizens of Barbados; have a monthly combined income of BDS $3, 250 or less, must not have benefitted from any previous housing assistance; and must be a first time homeowner with neither applicant nor co-applicant owning existing property.?? In addition, the applicant must be able to secure the required complementary funding which must be pre-approved by a financial institution; and must have been allocated a housing solution not exceeding BDS $130,000 through Government’s HELP Programme.

"The fair, which will cater to everyone, will help those individuals fully understand first hand, the benefits of this programme, not to mention it will also be a day of fun and entertainment," the official emphasised.

The Ministry will also provide a shuttle service from the Princess Alice Bus Terminal to the Fairchild Street Terminal, then to the National Housing Corporation, at Country Road, St. Michael from 10:00 a.m. to noon and 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on the day at no additional cost.
