Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Urban Development, Dr. Denis Lowe

Government’s proposal to introduce a Constituency Empowerment Programme could soon get some assistance from a regional forum.

That is because Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Urban Development, Dr. Denis Lowe, will participate in the Regional Conference/Consultation on Development of the Regional Policy and Cooperation Framework on Local Governance and Issues Relating to Local Government Development in the Region, and a Meeting of the Caribbean Forum of Local Government Ministers (CFLGM) taking place this Friday, May 30, in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

It is expected that there will be “a sharing of plans, programmes and experiences in the area of local government and local governance”.

The primary focus of these meetings is to “help shape the regional policy and cooperation framework in the area of local governance”. An additional focus is “to start the process of identifying needs to strengthen local government systems and advance local governance in the various member states”.

The CFLGM was established in 2004 and its “aim is to strengthen local governance and advance local democracy in the region”.
