Security should incorporate economic and social cohesion, factors which are critical to world peace.

This was emphasised by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean, during a courtesy call at her Culloden Road office, by Ambassador of Luxembourg, Jean-Paul Senninger yesterday.

Suggesting that security should be driven by a unified approach, she stressed that it also ensures that vital sectors such as education and health are protected and are developed to their fullest potential, in an effort to help countries reach a full level of prosperity.

In his remarks, Ambassador Senninger concurred and assured the Foreign Affairs Minister that … "we strongly believe that a stable, secure and sustainable country cannot be built on military force but through investment in education, development and the prevention of climate change."

The envoy further stated that international cooperation, investment in human resources, openness and stability were essential for the growth and prosperity of small nations such as Barbados and Luxembourg.

"We cannot deny that we are small but more importantly, we are true believers of multilateral activity," he said, stressing that "concerns with education and climate change must be represented around the table and Luxembourg can do so for countries large and small, developed and developing".

Barbados and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg established diplomatic relations on May 5, 1977.?? Luxembourg is a small landlocked European country which enjoys one of the highest standards of living in the European Union.???? In 2005, Luxembourg was voted the safest city in the world by a Mercer Human Resource Consulting Survey.
