Forty-seven teachers and principals from 36 nursery, primary and secondary schools across the island will participate in the Second annual Mabalozi Conference being held tomorrow, Friday, May 25, which is Africa Day.

The half-day meeting will be held at the Grantley Adams Memorial School, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Discussions will include Using an Africentric Approach to Educating Our Children and Operationalising the Nefertari Re’mat Approach in Bermuda: Towards a Mabalozi Programme.

Later that day, at 2:00 p.m., 24 of those educators participating in the session will be officially installed in the Mabalozi programme.

The Mabalozi Conference is held annually by the Commission for Pan-African Affairs to promote cross fertilisation of ideas and collective strategies towards reinforcing children’s sense of identity in order to build their self-esteem and confidence, ultimately encouraging national development.

An official from the Commission underscored the importance of the Mabalozi programme to young people in the island. The spokesperson continued: "That is why the Commission has challenged teachers to collaborate and share knowledge and experiences in an effort to find creative and empowering solutions to the root problems of low self-esteem and confidence … in our schools.

"We are looking forward to the positive impact on the educational landscape as a result of the hard work and dedication of the Mabalozi."
