The main house at the Nightengale Home will be converted into a state-of-the-art therapeutic centre which will be used by children with special needs.

??

Word of this has come from Chairperson of the Child Care Board (CCB), Maureen Graham, who said negotiations with Corporate Barbados and other Government Ministries were ongoing and she hoped the major restoration work would begin later this year.

??

While speaking at a press conference today to launch Child Month, Ms. Graham added that a modern and fully equipped reception centre at the Nightengale Complex would soon be officially handed over.

??

She told the reporters that within recent times there had been an increasing demand for the Board???s services and officials were anticipating an even greater need because of the current financial situation. However, she stressed that the CCB was preparing for the expected changes.

?????Staffing is an issue which we would need to address, especially in the light of the ongoing discussions on the mandatory reporting protocol which by nature would put significant pressure on the existing system,??? she stated.
