Several male entrepreneurs recently got the opportunity to show off their skills when the Bureau of Gender Affairs hosted a Symposium and showcase, for men and boys last weekend at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed.
Speaking at the launch of the showcase and symposium, the penultimate event on the 2017 International Men’s Day, (IMD) calendar, acting Minister of Culture, Senator Harcourt Husbands, commended the young men and boys who participated in the activity and took the opportunity to “use their skills in innovative ways to make or supplement income”.
Praising the Bureau of Gender Affairs for taking the initiative to stage the activity, Senator Husbands stated that it was through “opportunities like these (that) our citizens can adjust to social and economic changes, especially in the advent of new technological advancement”.
He added that he hoped the event would “bring greater spin offs as we try to offset the threat of globalisation and the challenges that it poses”.
Senator Husbands also reassured those in attendance that in addition to designing and instituting programmes to aid in the development of men, he would also seek to ensure that the issues of concern to women would not be sidelined.”
The activities concluded on Sunday, November 19, International Men’s Day, with a Church Service at Christ is the Answer family church in Battaleys, St. Peter.
