The manufacturing community is being urged to attend an Innovation and Manufacturing symposium, the first of its kind.

The convention, which will be held under the theme: Innovation, Growth and Competitiveness – Creating a Manufacturing Dynasty, is geared at empowering and developing the sector.?? It comes off on Monday, June 17, at the Savannah Hotel, Hastings, Christ Church, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

According to Economist with the Division of Industry and International Business, Cyril Gill, "this type of forum will allow participants to understand the importance of economic development.?? It also offers a unique opportunity for interested parties to propose suggestions towards creating an enabling framework, through which innovation systems may be developed for the benefit of the manufacturing community."

International and local experts will be on hand to provide perspectives on how the industry can integrate innovation into its operations and members will have the opportunity to learn skills to facilitate innovative approaches within the manufacturing community.

Keynote speakers will be: Lecturer, Department of Economics (Cave Hill Campus), Dr. Winston Moore; Lecturer, Department of Management Studies (Cave Hill Campus), Dr. Paul Pounder; CEO, Barbados Investment Development Corporation, Dr. Leroy McClean; (Ag) Director National Council for Science and Technology, Charles Cyrus; Founder of Innogen Technologies, Mark Hill and Executive Director, Barbados Coalition of Service Industries, Lisa Cummins.

Members of the manufacturing community are encouraged to bring suggestions on how the manufacturing sector can be made more innovative and efficient through government and private sector initiatives.
