Barbadians and visitors to the island have a grand opportunity to rub shoulders for a common cause in the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day March, this Saturday, June 20, beginning at 8:30 a.m., at the General Post Office (GPO), Cheapside.?? It will end at Independence Square.

The March, being held by the Ministries of Social Care and Health, will see a number of groups and organisations coming together to show their support in the fight against elder abuse.??

Those organisations participating are: the Men’s Educational Support Association, Israel Lovell Foundation Seniors’ Group, the Barbados Association of Professional Social Workers, the Barbados Youth Service, NUPW Seniors’ Group, the Barbados Retired Nurses’ Association, Silver Springs, and the Retired Police Association.

Persons are encouraged to wear white, purple or mauve, and assemble at the GPO, Cheapside, by 8:00 a.m.?? Literature on elder abuse will be distributed en route to Independence Square.

At Independence Square, Minister of Youth, Family and Sports, Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo and Minister of Social Care, Christopher Sinckler, will deliver remarks. A brief presentation will be held to award first, second and third place winners of the primary school essay competition entitled "A Day in the Life of an Elderly Person", which was held earlier in the year.
