The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) will announce the winners of its 40th anniversary poster competition tomorrow, Saturday, September 17, at the Farley Hill National Park, St. Peter, at 10:30 a.m. Permanent Secretary, Lionel Weekes, will deliver the feature address and present the prizes, following the EPD’s annual beach clean-up of the Morgan Lewis Beach.??

Under the theme, Prevent Marine Litter, the posters illustrate different ways to protect the coastline and marine environment from litter and other land-based sources of pollution. Entries were submitted by children ages eight to 11 from schools, environmental clubs, faith-based groups, local community and youth organisations. ??????????????????

The competition was part of an overall National Marine Litter Programme organised by the EPD, a department of the Ministry of Environment and Drainage. The programme is aimed at sensitising the public about the negative effects of marine litter as well as encouraging persons to adopt sound environmental practices and stop illegal disposal of waste.
