The International Transport Division of the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport will commemorate World Maritime Day next week, by hosting a number of activities under the theme: Maritime Education and Training.

Activities will begin with a church service on Sunday, September 20, at the River Road New Testament Church of God, River Road, St. Michael, at 10:00 a.m.

Later that same day at 1:00 p.m., there will be an awards ceremony at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael.

On Wednesday, September 23, 40 students from the Lester Vaughan School and 40 from the George Lamming Primary School will tour the Barbados Port Inc., University Row, St. Michael, and the Barbados Coast Guard, HMBS Pelican, Spring Garden Highway, St. Michael. The tour will begin at 10:00 a.m.

World Maritime Day will be celebrated on Thursday, September 24. The theme, which was developed by the United Nations, is intended to bring attention to the wider spectrum of maritime education and training, particularly its adequacy and quality, which is seen as the foundation to ensure a safe and secure shipping industry.
