World Asthma Day will be commemorated tomorrow, May 4 with Barbados’ launch and adoption of Caribbean Guidelines on Asthma, by Barbados.

This island’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Joy St. John will speak on behalf of the Ministry of Health and move the adoption of the Guidelines, at a meeting, at the Savannah Hotel at 7:00 p.m.

The adoption will be followed by a technical presentation by Dr. Malcolm Howitt, a medical practitioner and researcher in the field of asthma.

Dr. Donald Simeon from the Caribbean Health Research Council, will also offer an introduction to the Guidelines to medical personnel, as well as other healthcare providers.

Meanwhile, some polyclinics will mark Asthma Day Quiz competitions in primary schools this week.

The Warrens Polyclinic will hold its preliminary quiz at the Lester Vaughan School on Wednesday, May 5 from 1:30 p.m., while the Randal Philips Polyclinic will host its preliminary at the Foundation School, on Thursday, May 6, at 9:30 a.m.
