Pupils of primary schools in the Maurice Byer Polyclinic catchment area in St. Peter have been invited to test their knowledge about diabetes and win a number of prizes and trophies by entering a Poster/Poetry Competition.

The contest, which is being sponsored by Sagicor General, is open to nine to 11 year old students who are required to develop either a poem or a poster on any issue related to diabetes such as its risk factors, causes, treatment, and complications. Pupils must also show the relationship of obesity to this disease.

The poem must contain no more than three verses with each verse having no more than 10 lines. It should be typed on 8½  X 11 inches sized paper and four copies must be forwarded to the attention of “Health Sister Marcia Beckles-Moore” at Maurice Byer Polyclinic, Station Hill, St. Peter, by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 1.

Entries will be judged by personnel from the National Cultural Foundation on Friday, June 12 at 10:30 a.m., at Christ is the Answer Family Church, Little Battaley’s, St. Peter.  Students will be required to recite the poem.  

Meanwhile, posters must be no larger than 30 x 30 inches squared and should bear the name of the student(s), name of the school and age group. The deadline for submission of entries to the polyclinic is Monday, June 8, by 3:00 p.m.

Prizes will be given for the most comical piece, most creative piece, most colourful piece, most original piece and the piece with the most educational content.

No school will be allowed to submit more than two poems or two posters.
