The Ministry of Health has advised members of the public that due to an outbreak of measles in South Africa, persons planning to travel to that country should obtain measles vaccination from their doctor, prior to travelling.

In addition, persons arriving in Barbados from South Africa will be asked to show evidence of having received the measles vaccine prior to travelling to Barbados. Consequently, it is recommended that residents of Barbados, who will be visiting South Africa, travel with the measles immunisation card, since they will be required to show proof of vaccination upon return to Barbados.

The Ministry of Health has expressed thanks to the public for cooperation in the matter.
