Persons are encouraged to wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses.??(FP)??

In an effort to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, the Ministry of Health is urging persons to maintain good personal hygiene practices.??

It is recommended that persons: wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and dry with disposable tissues since this is the most effective way of reducing transmission. If soap and water are not available, individuals should use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser. It is also important to keep unwashed hands away from eyes, nose and mouth; and persons should cover one’s nose and mouth with tissue when coughing and sneezing, as this will block the spread of the virus from the mouth or nose.

In situations where tissue is not available it is suggested that individuals cough into the inner side of the elbow as an emergency measure. All used tissues should be thrown into a bin or collected in a tied plastic bag for disposal.

The Ministry also recommends that frequently touched surfaces and objects such as doorknobs, keyboards, and phones that may be contaminated should be cleaned and disinfected.??
