Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley’s address to the nation – January 08, 2021. (PMO)

A medical unit is now in place at HMP Dodds with staff assigned to work at the facility, and the second tests have been conducted on prisoners and prison officers.

This announcement came from Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on COVID-19, Senator Dr. Jerome Walcott during an address to the nation this evening.

In addition, Mr. Walcott said there were now two ventilators at the prison which were not in use but were there in the event that someone became seriously ill.

“All I can say at this point in time is that we want you to remain calm; take the necessary precautions. There are early indications that…the number of positive cases is declining [and] we are doing much larger numbers of tests, and indeed the numbers seem to be heading in the right direction for us.

“We are merely asking all Barbarians to take the necessary precautions. Remember to wash your hands frequently and sanitise them, and to maintain physical distance,” Senator Walcott urged.
