Former Barbados Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Dr. Chelston Brathwaite, has authored a book entitled, ‘Memories of China, My Eleventh Defining Moment’.

This morning, a signed copy of the book was presented to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr. Jerome Walcott and Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM, David Comissiong, at the Ministry’s office, located at Culloden Road, St. Michael.

Minister Walcott thanked Dr. Brathwaite for sharing his book and for the copies he gave to the ministry.

The book, according to Dr. Brathwaite, highlights his tenure as Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China and the progress made between Barbados and China during the period 2014 to 2017.

When asked why he decided to write the book, the former ambassador shared that he believes persons who have the opportunity to live in another country, upon their return to Barbados, should document their experience to help others learn about that country, for example, its culture and the opportunities available.

He also mentioned that the book was written to inform persons about the modernisation of China and its potential global influence and to set out a new strategy for Barbados/China cooperation.

Dr. Brathwaite described his tenure as ambassador as a “novel and fantastic experience”, where he gained the opportunity to learn more about the Asian country and its people.
