At least one men’s health association has gone beyond the call of duty by providing more than educational sessions for its members.

It is the Winston Scott Polyclinic Men’s Health Group, which recently showed its benevolence by donating park benches, signage and potted plants to the polyclinic, at Jemmotts Lane.

During the handing-over ceremony of the items from group president Wayne Greaves to Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ingrid Cumberbatch, she expressed a "Heartfelt Thank You" and lauded the work done by the members.

The official said: "You have always gone beyond your mandate of strengthening knowledge, attitudes and practices of men in the community with respect to health issues and done a lot of tangible things at this polyclinic."

She revealed that the Men’s Health Group had painted certain sections at the polyclinic on weekends, and commended them for their philanthropy.?? Dr. Cumberbatch noted that it not only extended to the Winston Scott Polyclinic but the community, where their public spiritedness was extended to other groups.??

In accepting the commendations, Mr. Greaves expressed the hope that all items would be used "in good faith" and "for all occasions". Of the signage, he explained that his organisation had provided the official "NO ENTRY" and "ONE WAY" signs along with road markings, to provide direction to traffic going in and out of the clinic.

??"We were having some problems with the vehicles that enter and exit the clinic, so in order to assist with traffic control it was agreed by management and the executive of the group to re-mark the solid lines and put in the necessary signs," he disclosed.

The Winston Scott Men’s Health Group is currently celebrating its third year, with a week of activities scheduled to conclude this Saturday, June 26, with a social night at the polyclinic, beginning at 6:00 p.m. jgill@barbados.gov.bb
