A highlight of Mental Health Month in October will be a panel discussion, hosted by the Psychiatric Hospital, on the topic Mental Health in the Workplace.

The discussion, which is open to the public, takes place at the NUPW Auditorium, Dalkeith, St. Michael, on Wednesday, October 11, at 7:00 p.m.

Panellists will be Mental Health Advocate, Margaret Gill; Senior Lecturer in Management, UWI, Cave Hill Campus, Dr. Dwayne Devonish; Psychiatrist, Dr. Sharon Harvey; Senior Counselling Psychologist, Rev. Anderson Kellman; and Senior Assistant General Secretary, Barbados Workers Union, Orlando “Gabby” Scott. The moderator will be Dr. Ermine Belle.

Other activities planned for the month include a church service on Sunday, October 8, at the Mount of Praise Church, Tudor Bridge, St. Michael, at 8:30 a.m.; a Sports Day on the grounds of the Psychiatric Hospital, Black Rock Main Road, St. Michael, on Thursday, October 12, from 10:00 a.m.; and a Health Fair on the hospital grounds on Friday, October 13, also at 10:00 a.m.

The staff concert comes off at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed, Constitution Road, on Saturday, October 14, at 7:00 p.m. and the Patients’ Concert will take place on the hospital grounds on Sunday, October 22, from 3:00 p.m.

There will be a series of sporting activities, including a Fun Run and Walk from the hospital to Brandons Beach on Sunday, October 15, starting at 3:30 p.m.; two 5-A-Side football matches on Monday, October 16, and Wednesday, October 18, at the hospital grounds, both beginning at 5:00 p.m.; and a road tennis tournament at Belfield Court, Black Rock, on Thursday, October 19, at 5:00 p.m. and Monday, October 23, at the same venue, also at 5:00 p.m.

There will also be a Cathcart cricket game on the hospital grounds on Wednesday, October 25, at 2:00 p.m.; a health and wellness launch at the hospital on Monday, October 9; and two Staff Appreciation Days, scheduled for Tuesday, October 10, and Tuesday, October 24.
