Ways to strengthen the existing bilateral relations between Mexico and Barbados were among the areas discussed when Mexican Ambassador, Mario Eugenio Arriola Woog, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.

During the meeting at Ilaro Court yesterday, the Ambassador said that Barbados and Mexico were pursuing similar developmental policies as they related to the implementation of green initiatives and boosting the tourism product.

He said the 2nd Mexico/CARICOM Summit, slated to be held in Barbados in May, would provide the opportunity to "renew dialogue at a higher level on a number of issues".

The Ambassador also mentioned the impact of trans-national crime on the country’s reputation and the need for a global response to this problem.

In response, Prime Minister Stuart spoke of the rich diplomatic relationship between the countries which dated back to 1972.?? During this time, he said Barbados had benefitted from the Technical Cooperation Agreement that exists with Mexico.

Regarding the island’s greening initiatives, he noted that Barbadians were very passionate about greening and looked forward to forging greater collaboration with Mexico in this effort.
