Suitably qualified Barbadians are being invited to apply for graduate and under-graduate programme fellowships at the Mexican Merchant Marine Academy commencing in September.

The two undergraduate Bachelor of Science programmes being offered will be in the disciplines of Merchant Marine Studies (Desk Officer Specialty) and Merchant Marine Studies (Engineer Officer Specialty).

The master’s programme is being offered in Port and Shipping Companies Management, which will be delivered onsite in Mexico and also online.?? The duration of this programme is spread over 14 two-month periods.

The entry requirements for the admission to the under-graduate and master’s programme are as follows: applicants must submit a completed application form; they must provide a copy of their birth certificate; and the applicants must be fluent in Spanish since all modules will be taught in the native language only.

Additionally, the candidates must submit original certified copies of their transcripts and possess the relevant educational and professional experience to be accepted into the programme.?? Additional requirements for each programme may be found on pages five and six of the application form.

The fellowships will cover board, lodging and tuition, field training, study materials and medical assistance.?? Foreign cadets must, however, pay for their uniforms, and travel tickets.??

Board and lodging will not be provided during vacation periods. However, the Barbados Port Authority will cover the cost of the airfare for two successful candidates.

Completed applications must be submitted to the Division of Economic Affairs, 3rd Floor East, Warrens Office Complex, St. Michael, by Wednesday, March 20.
