There will be an increase in the statutory minimum wage for Shop Assistants.?? It will take effect from next Thursday, April 5.
Minister of Labour and Social Security, Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, made the relevant Wages Regulation (Shop Assistants) Order on March 26 this year, and this will be published in the Official Gazette of March 29.
Consequently, the statutory minimum payment to shop assistants shall be as follows: $250 will be the new minimum wage for workers who are paid weekly; where a shop assistant is not employed on a weekly basis, the minimum rate of wages payable daily is $50; and where a shop assistant is not employed on a weekly or daily basis, the minimum rate of wages payable hourly is $6.25.
The minimum overtime rate for wages payable for a normal working day is $9.38 per hour, or part thereof.?? While the minimum overtime rate of wages payable for public holidays is $12.50 per hour, or part thereof.??
