The Barbados Prison Service came in for praise from Minister of Home Affairs, Information and Public Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams, following a recent tour of the HMP Dodds, St. Philip facility.

During the guided tour by senior prison officials, the Minister, Permanent Secretary Deborah Payne, and Director of Public Affairs, Pat Parris, got a first-hand view of the facility’s operations.

This included the craft and mechanic shops, the control room, the dam which has the potential to recycle water through a possible collaboration with the Barbados Water Authority, and the work carried out by those involved in the cosmetology section, which is certified by the TVET Council.

Minister Abrahams said he was also impressed with the paintings done by inmates and work done by the Prison farm section.

Matters relating to the implementation of the parole system and initiatives to highlight the work being done by the penal institution were also discussed during the visit.
