COVID-19 update and press conference – January 12th, 2021. (PMO)

All persons who meet the criteria for hazard payments at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) will be paid, says Minister of Health and Wellness, Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic.

He made the comments on Tuesday evening during a COVID-19 update and press conference, in response to a question on the categories of workers at the QEH who will receive the $3 million hazard payments, which that institution recently received.

Lt. Col. Bostic said: “The Ministry of Health has been paying hazard pay since March. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital had to go through a process … and this funding was approved.  But the funding was not approved for doctors, this is for every category of worker within the hospital situation, including all those at the isolation facilities, from manager to janitor.

“It is for all persons, there is no class or anything like that. A hazard is a hazard … so that all persons who meet the criteria for hazard pay at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital will be given that hazard pay,” he stated.

Those persons who will receive the hazard allowance include consultants, doctors, registered nurses, nursing assistants and technical and ancillary staff and the groups will receive various sums of money.
