"The robbery attempt and attack on Senator Sandiford-Garner must be condemned in every way possible, just like we would condemn any attempt on any other citizen of Barbados."

This was the immediate response today by Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones, to a query from a member of the press regarding last night’s reported attack on Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, while she was at a supermarket.

"Persons are becoming bolder and bolder with their actions and their behaviours and we have to seek to understand what is driving them to get involved in the kinds of behaviours that they are involved with," Mr. Jones said, as he observed that there were persons with no respect for other human beings.

While sympathising with the Senator, Minister Jones stated: "The extent of the desperation of some persons to reach into all parts of our community and into all parts of our society is really something that must be condemned in the harshest tones."

He called for the public to give more support to the Royal Barbados Police Force to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to justice and said: "…If we, as a people, recognise the significant dangers which these miscreants pose to our society and to our way of life then they would not exist in Barbados…

"They really should not have a chance or an opportunity to prey on unsuspecting citizens to prey on unsuspecting civilians and to bring harm to the lives of people and to their families."
