Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones??

Issues at the Alexandra Secondary School are being resolved for a smooth intake of students at the beginning of the next school term.

This assurance was given by Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones, recently during a tour of five primary schools, at which he announced the readiness of all schools to reopen on Monday, September 6.

Noting that the Ministry had received calls from concerned parents as to the effective running of the school, Mr. Jones said that he would like to assuage their fears.

He explained that members of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) were scheduled to have a few more meetings with Permanent Secretary, Gilford Alleyne to deal with non-contentious issues at the school, adding that those talks held with that union recently had been pleasant and yielded positive results.?? "I ask that these amiable relations continue during the school year," he urged.

Mr. Jones was quick as well to commend the BSTU for its response to the Ministry of Education. "The teachers left one thing in our minds, they want to teach, they want to have the type of contact and relationship with students that has existed in the past and they do not want continually to be part of an environment that is not settled," he maintained.

The Minister also reiterated that a full inspection would be carried out at the school under the direction of the Chief Education Officer during the upcoming school term. "The team will have an unhindered run of the school," Mr. Jones stressed, while pointing out that the inspection would include assessments of the governance of the school, pedagogical issues and the adequacy of the infrastructure to cater to students.??

The results of the inspection will be made available to the Board of Management and principal of the school, after which the Ministry, and with the school administration will devise a strategy to correct any weaknesses. kmoore@barbados.gov.bb
