???A sad moment for Barbados.???

That was how Minister with responsibility for Youth, Stephen Lashley, described the tragic accident which claimed the lives of four young women early last Sunday morning.

While speaking at a media briefing on the details of the upcoming Independence celebrations at Sagicor???s Office in Wildey, St. Michael, the Minister expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, and asked Barbadians to pray for those affected by the loss.

???I want to take the opportunity as Minister of Youth to say how sorry we are. We express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of those young ladies who have lost their lives,??? he said.

Mr. Lashley stated that it was his wish that as Barbados approaches its 49th Anniversary of Independence, the spirit of nationhood and hope would act as a beacon for all, especially those going through such difficult times.

The accident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, claimed the lives of 18-year-old Kayrie Brathwaite, 22-year-old Shakira Shepherd, 23-year-old Shameka Shepherd and 25-year-old Waveney Johnson.
