Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean, has praised the strides made in Barbados/Cuba relations.

She thanked Ambassador Lisette Per??z Per??z, for ???representing her country well??? and furthering the diplomatic relationship between the two countries during a farewell call at the Ministry on Wednesday.

Senator McClean said despite the economic challenges Cuba had experienced, it had ???given so much to the world???, and she lauded Cuba for its assistance in joining the fight against the Ebola Virus disease.

???I think it is an extremely important initiative???it is also very historic because I saw that you were able to extend your hand to [officials up north]???I thought that was very magnanimous on the part of your country,??? she added.

In turn, the Cuban Ambassador thanked the government for its support during her tenure. She said the Ebola epidemic called for quick action to control its spread and this could be achieved through closer cooperation.

The two officials also discussed the upcoming Cuba/CARICOM conference; tackling health issues through modern technology; and other areas of cooperation in agriculture and disaster management.

Barbados and Cuba established diplomatic relations in 1972.
