Investors have been told to examine the business opportunities that can be created through the provision of intra-regional marine transport services.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean, offered this advice during the closing ceremony for the Caribbean Exporters Colloquium 2014, which was held recently at Hilton Barbados.

Senator McClean said there were models that needed to be adopted in the Caribbean, which would allow for the full mobilisation of financial resources.

She explained that the Caribbean had the capacity, and ???billions of dollars that could be leveraged in a manner to produce significant prosperity for Barbados and the wider region???.

Using the Bridgetown Cruise Terminal Inc. as an example, the Foreign Trade Minister said out that that entity was a private company owned by Government through the Barbados Port Inc. That investment, she pointed out, had ???paid dividends from the beginning until now???.

She continued: ???As we look to solve problems and look for solutions to move people and cargo, we can do that in a way that facilitates business travel and what I call recreational travel, while at the same time, providing an opportunity for moving food and other kinds of produce and other goods across the region.???
