Minister of Commerce and Trade, Senator Haynesley Benn (FP)

Minister of Commerce, Senator Haynesley Benn, has lauded the efforts of one local company’s continued focus on expansion and growth.

Mr. Benn congratulated Harris Paints on its alliance with International Paint, a division of Akzo Nobel and the world market leader in heavy duty coatings for shipbuilding and repair, during a press conference last Monday at the Harris Paints Corporate Headquarters in Wildey, St. Michael.??

"The forming of this alliance augurs well for Barbados…It will ???open the door’ for Harris Paints to obtain cutting-edge technology, and enhance staff skills and core competencies. Aligning itself with Akzo Nobel will surely increase the company’s competitiveness and also assist Harris Paints in becoming more internationally recognised.

I take this opportunity to implore other businesses to follow Harris Paints’ example by forming strong alliances which can position their companies to cope with the current economic challenges," the Minister stressed, adding that persons should also exploit opportunities provided through trading agreements, such as the CARIFORUM-EU partnership and the imminent CARICOM-Canada arrangement.??

He also highlighted government’s ongoing Barbados Competitiveness Programme, which will focus on improving logistics and trade facilitation and strengthening public-private dialogue to develop and implement a medium-term competitiveness strategy.

Harris Paints Chief Executive Officer, Ian Kenyon highlighted the fact that this latest addition to Harris Paints’ offerings was signature to the company’s focus, to satisfy customer needs.?? (NH/BGIS)
