Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones, is keeping his promise to continue meetings with the Barbados Secondary Teacher’s Union (BSTU) in an effort to quickly resolve industrial relations issues at the Alexandra Secondary School in Speightstown, St. Peter.

The next round of talks to seek resolutions to a number of outstanding issues is scheduled to come off tomorrow, Thursday, August 5, in the Minister’s Conference Room at the Ministry’s Constitution Road Headquarters. It will be held one week after the last meeting which was held on Thursday, July 28, at the same location.

On that occasion, Mr. Jones agreed to place "on hold" correspondence from his Ministry dated May 17, which spoke to the withholding of salaries of teachers who went on strike earlier this year, until some outstanding issues were laid to rest. The BSTU, in turn, gave its commitment for an orderly start to the new school year in September for the Alexandra School.

Both parties also agreed that a full inspection would be carried out on the school by the Ministry of Education, in accordance with the Education Act.??
