Minister of Finance, Christopher Sinckler, has praised the island’s long-standing relationship with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and has pledged to maintain those ties with the international financial institution.
He gave this undertaking recently during a courtesy call with the IDB’s Vice President, Roberto Vellutini, in the Cabinet Office Conference Room at Government Headquarters on Bay Street.
Mr. Sinckler acknowledged that the current economic downturn had had a significant impact worldwide and added: "We [government] still have to manage to keep things as stable as possible to ensure that we turn small gains into larger victories."
The Finance Minister also updated the IDB Vice President on the planning committee’s work for the upcoming Foromic conference, slated for October 1 to 3, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
"We are happy…the excitement is building and the [plans] are going well. So, I am happy to report that from all that I have seen, heard, and the files that I have read, that the preparations are well advanced," Mr. Sinckler stated.
In turn, Mr. Vellutini mentioned the importance of validating agreements that had already been made [with the IDB) and fine tuning discussions in other areas.??
