On Monday, January 31st 2022, Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) Executive Chairman, Mrs. Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, Executive Directors and members of the hospital’s senior management team officially welcomed recently appointed Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Ian Gooding-Edghill to the QEH for his first briefing on the QEH.

Minister Gooding-Edghill was accompanied by Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, with responsibility for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital & Non-Communicable Diseases, Hon. Dr. Sonia E. Browne.

Other attendees included senior members of the Ministry of Health and Wellness inclusive of Permanent Secretary, The Most Honourable Janet Phillips, and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. The Most Honourable Kenneth George.

This initial briefing focused on identifying the areas of achievements, gaps and immediate priority areas.

The Minister of Health and Wellness indicated that he looked “forward to touring the QEH facilities, meeting with staff and bringing new approaches drawn from my strengths obtained in the commercial sector, and that of Dr. Browne as a medical practitioner”.

Executive Chairman, Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland, described the Prime Minister’s strategic focus on the QEH and its linkage to NCDs through the appointment of Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, with responsibility for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital & Non-Communicable Diseases, Hon. Dr. Sonia E. Browne as “very progressive”.

She also expressed her interest in supporting the Ministers as they transition into their new roles.
