Minister of Housing and Lands, Michael Lashley will leave the island tomorrow to lead the Barbados delegation to the 22nd General Council Session of the United Nations Human Settlement Programme(UN-HABITAT).

The delegation will include the Chief Town Planner, Mark Cummins and Chief Housing Planner, Patricia Barrow. The meeting takes place at HABITAT’s headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, from March 30 to April 3, under the theme, "Affordable Housing Finance in the Context of the Global Financial Crisis and Climate Change".

The Barbados team will share information on its range of innovative housing programmes which are designed to enable a wider segment of the population to attain improved living conditions and security of tenure, even in these challenging economic times.

The General Council meets biennially, to examine HABITAT’s work programme and the Council’s relationships with its partners. This high-level forum comprises Government Ministers who set policy guidelines and the organisation’s budget for a two year period.
