Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, has showered praise on Barbados??? first female-world championship medalist, Tia-Adana Belle.

Stating that he wanted to join the rest of Barbados in congratulating Tia for ???her outstanding performance???, Minister Lashley said, ???We are seeing our athletes performing exceedingly well on the international stage and I think this augurs well for the types of foundation programmes we had for them in Barbados.???

Consequently, the Sports Minister will personally welcome home the young silver medalist tomorrow, Tuesday, July 16, at 2:45 p.m. at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

Tia became the island???s first female athlete to achieve a medal at a world championship when she clocked 58.42 seconds in the 400-metres hurdles race at the just concluded IAAF World Youth Championships, in Ukraine last Saturday.

Also scheduled to arrive tomorrow is Mario Burke. He was the lone Barbadian male to represent the country at the IAAF World Youth Championships. Mario placed fifth in the 100-metres race, clocking a time of 10:51 seconds.

After the Minister greets both athletes, they will proceed to the Accra Beach Hotel for a reception.
